Build: This is the tallest non-draft horse at Tamarack Park! He's heavier than one would imagine, too, for being so leggy; he passes on sturdy bone and muscle to all his foals. His size is, in fact, a bit of an anomaly, but some of his ancestors had height close to his, so perhaps it skipped a generation or two. Zaphiro has a very powerful composition in that his shoulders and hindquarters are both very well-developed and very well-put-together (and, as his size suggests, very large). His long swan's neck is attached high and carried even higher, lending a particular grace to the shining intelligence in his eyes.
Temperament: Zaphiro was always a very calm, quiet sort of stallion. He's a calm sort of horse in general, but the fact that he was intact until his late teens makes this aspect of his character all the more noticeable. He's the sort of horse who, we're told, upon his first backing didn't even turn his head to inquire about the human sitting on him. We find that in his old age he is even less prone to bouts of testosterone-driven foolishness than ever before, which is nice, but it means that his rider sometimes has to carry a crop when riding him to make him move. Regardless of his quietness, he seems to know just how handsome he is, and always carries himself with the regality and nobility he was named for.
