This show is only open to horses of real breeds, and of real colors found in those breeds.
Numbers won't be given out; you can make one up for each horse you enter, but there should be a number worn on the rider's back in each entry (if you can see the rider's back, that is!).

SETTING:
The New Year's Exhibition is set on December 25-27 (Friday to Sunday), so it's definitely winter at Tamarack Park. Most classes will be held inside Tamarack Park's covered arena (part of the arena will be sectioned off with dressage letters and borders for that class; the whole arena is much larger than is necessary for dressage). Polo will be held at the (fictional) local polo club, because Tamarack Park doesn't have a playing field; you can draw that place however you like if you're entering polo. Trailers may be parked just south of the main stables, and warm-up may be conducted in the paddock at the south-east corner of the property. Permanent stalls and paddocks will not be provided for competitors, but temporary stalls will be set up in the field just west of the stables. A map of the property can be found here.
The Arena: Our arena (we've only got one) is covered, but not enclosed; you can use this map as a reference. It's 100'x200' (or 30.5x61 meters). The transparency in the center of the roof lets sunshine in during the day, and we've got hanging lights which make the arena usable during the dark hours.
The Round Pen: We also have a 65' (20m) round pen attached to the northwest corner of the arena. Same as the arena, it's covered but not enclosed. There are transparent slats in the roof which allow sunlight to illuminate the interior during the day, and a single lamp at the apex of the roof lets us use it when the sunlight's gone.
SCORING:
All entries will be judged based on merit (there will be no RNG scoring).
You may enter your horse's class at whatever difficulty level is appropriate for its training (for example, you can draw a low Gambler's Choice course if your horse or rider only jumps 2'6", or if your horse is an Olympian you can draw huge fences at your discretion). If there are enough entries to warrant doing so, entries will be divided into rough groups by "level" for judging.
Just comment here with a link to your entry (or entries) when you're finished. Please be sure to include identifying information (horse name/link, rider name, class(es) entered, etc.) in your entry's description!
DIVISIONS & CLASSES:
Classes are listed in order of go; halter begins at 8:30am on Saturday, and we continue on through the day until every class (except polo) is run (with an hour lunch break from noon until 1:00pm). Polo begins at 10:00am on Sunday.
Halter: This class aims to feature each horse's best breed characteristics, so tack and turnout should suit the horse's breed. Both conformation and movement (at walk and trot) are judged. It's okay to not show the handler so long as it's clear from the leadline that a handler exists. Takes place in the covered arena.
Pas-de-Deux: Entry must feature both horses and riders; costume is allowed, but neither required nor awarded extra points. Takes place in the covered arena.
Free Jumping: There will be a standard run-in chute of deconstructed jump rails, leading to a one-stride in-and-out where the first fence is about 2'6" and the second fence can be as high as your horse's training allows.
Gambler's Choice: When you're drawing, if you can see the points signs for any fences, you can decide point values. You can also design all fences seen in your entry. Costume is not allowed. Takes place in the covered arena.
Six-Bar: Arena will be cleared aside from the line of fences. Costume is not allowed. Takes place in the covered arena.
Puissance: There is no warm-up fence; the arena will be clear aside from the wall. Costume is not allowed. Takes place in the covered arena.
Polo: 4-chukker, co-ed. Each rider must be drawn with both his/her fully tacked mounts (either playing them or not), but you don't have to draw a full team or even any other horses on the field. Not regulating teams/colors etc., but if you'd like to coordinate with other entrants I'll give bonus points for organized play. Takes place at the local polo club field (not on Tamarack Park property), so use your imagination!
If you'd like to suggest a class, please note me! I'm happy to add almost any class which showcases the horse's athleticism.

to answer more questions --
Hey, everybody! I've been back on dA a little more regularly lately, and that's because I've made a pretty big change in my life.
At the end of November I quit my full-time office job, and am now officially a full-time working student at Valhalla Farm in Wellborn, FL! I live on the property with the other working students, and we spend our time feeding, grooming and working the horses, taking lessons, and goofing off. :) Teddy came with me, of course, and has settled in beautifully!
I don't have a bunch of free time in this role, but I also don't really feel like I'm "at work" -- I just love everything about this place, and I am always lear
to answer some questions --
hey, y'all. thanks to everyone who's been checking in on me.
i had a fairly tumultuous summer, and i think it's fair to say now that while my muse for creative writing and drawing hasn't waned, life as a real live person has fully kicked in, and i'm not sure that i'll ever have enough time to keep up an art account again.
i'm employed full-time for the state of florida now that i graduated law school in may, so i work from 8:30am m-f. my particular office is slammed right now re: post-hurricane crises. all summer i was super busy studying for the bar exam, and then at the end of august i realized my dream of at least 15 years and bought a h
